HAPPY TEACHERS DAY

Hi readers,

"Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru devah Maheshwarah. Guru sakshat param Brahma, tasmai Shri Guruveh Namaha".

Nothing could more beautifully capture the true significance of a teacher in our lives as the above shlokas. Today, on the occasion of teacher's day I want to dedicate this post to all those individuals who at some point in my life enlightened me by sharing a piece of their learnings.

From what i can remember from my schooling days, Teachers Day used to be one of the most anticipated functions conducted at our school. The best part about this function which endeared it to most students was that every thing rite from the menu, to the cultural program was planned and organised by student themselves. Student would generally get divided into teams, which would then handle specific tasks. Interestingly, the teaming up process was devoid of any adult intervention either nor was any type of formal division process adopted. Some students based on their strengths would accept responsibility for certain tasks and others would just side with one of them based on their inclinations.

The preparation for T day would start well in advance, least two weeks to be precise. This is when the fund collection exercise would begin. Rehearsals for different song, dance, or drama items would follow almost immediately after the commencement of collections work and last till a day before the actual function. Although, I have grown up to become a banker and like economics enough to aspire being labelled an economist, I never really participated in  fund raising or money managing activities in any of thwarting T Day functions I remember. I was more of an artist then and nothing interested me more than having to act before a hall full of audiences. To say that I was good at it will not be an overstatement . I was first selected for a T day drama in the 2nd standard. From then on, T Day plays were almost always under my control irrespective of which school I was in. I had even promised myself that I would become an actor one day...Although I never managed to gather enough conviction for fulfillment of that dream, acting in a movie is still in my consciousness as one of the 10 things I would like to accomplish before I die.

Dear friends had it not been for Teachers Day I would not have known what its like to act before people, public speaking and confidence would have always eluded me, i could have never appreciated music and dance like I do today because i would have never understood the effort required for producing those notes and moves, which I only got to know after watching the sincere efforts of my friends at T Day rehearsals.

Last but not the least, whatever I am today I largely owe it to a few chance interactions with some extraordinary teachers.

HAPPY TEACHERS DAY
